First Day
15th of July
The First day at the club for the new manager Jimmy Coyle. As expected with an completely unknown Manager every move and decision is being scrutinised and opinions are being developed by the fans.
Jimmy attended a press conference:
Q: Having arrived and had most of today to familiarise yourself with the club, what is your opinion on the squad that has been left behind by Wenger?
A: Considering his frugal transfer policy, and great mentality he has brought in some fantastic talent in Cazorla and Giroud, 25mil for both... Outstanding business. However the likes of Gervinho, Arshavin, Chamakh, Andre Santos and Park Chu Young who with wages combine to over 275k a week and over 25 Million in transfer and agent fees need to be addressed at soonest.
Q: Are you looking at offloading these players?
A: Yes, is the simple answer, when is the hard answer as the wage structure in place at Arsenal rewards even the 'Deadwood' with high paying contracts it makes them hard to move onto new clubs.
Q: You mentioned the wage structure, how do you see the clubs finances?
A: Finances are excellent, I have been given a budget of 23million for transfers into the club in my first season, which is a fairly small amount considering the talent I would like to bring to the club. The wage structure will change. The best players will be paid the most, and the squad players will be paid a lower wage, it will not remain as is.
Q: What players are you looking to 'attract'?
A: Established players and youth players, a healthy combined mixture, I have my eye on a few targets, but I do not wish to disclose this information until I am announcing the press conference of our new signing.
Q: Ok, enough of the financial and player talk, what about your tactical approach to the game?
A: Again, I would not like to divulge too much information about my tactical approach, but I like to play possession football, and at times fast paced counter attacking football similar to what Arsenal Football Club has been used too over the years already.
Q: The fans are not impressed by your appointment, what do you have to say?
A: Well, I have already released a statement to try and ease the concerns of the fans as I can relate to them as a fan of the club, the Great Arsene has been replaced by an unknown manager, I just hope the fans can show me some faith and continue to support the team in full force, and I will repay that faith with class, exciting, attacking football.
A fairly short and small conference but this announced the intentions of the manager quite clearly, not much in terms of the football will change, but an internal re-structure and player changes look quite imminent at the club.
